After a lot of tweaking this is the final intro to the film.

The bird flight was made in maya with toon lines. The line looked a lot cleaner than the lines from the mountains and the humans so i added noise to the toon lines to ruff them up a bit.

**THIS BLOG WAS WRITEN LAST WEEK BUT I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS UPLOADING THE VIDEO**

This is a render of the intro I've been working on. really happy with the drawing on effect and the images but there are still a few things that need sorting out, such as the doggy camera work. I've been working at Luisa's today and disusing what could be improved in the intro. we've decided it needs to be a lot faster and that it would be nice with some more animation from the bird, I'm working on these things right now and can be achieved quite easily . We also thought it would be nice it the lines would look like they soaked into the paper and spread out after they are drawn. This is an idea we got from the intro from Disney's Mulan which you can see below:

I've spent most of my day trying out different ways of achieving this look on After Effects but they all ended up looking a bit naff. I'm gonna give it another go in the morning and hopefully it will come to me.

Festivals and promoting our film.

I have been looking to festivals that we could possibly get our film shown at. so far i gathered a good amount of application forms and will be sending them off at the end of the month with the DVD of our film.

Yesterday I had a great day of networking. In the morning I email an old friend Steven Van Grinsven.

Steven put on art exhibitions all over the world with his company 'Zinger Presents.' The exhibitions are usually mix medium and often incorporate some kind of moving image. In February 2008 Zinger Presents took me and my band to Rotterdam to play his exhibition. The exhibition was us playing a gig on a stage built by sculptor Graham Hudson with visuals by illustrator Julie Verhoeven.

Knowing that Steven was interested in mix mediums i asked if would be able to help in getting our film into any festival or exhibitions. Luckily he text me within an hour saying he had an exhibition opening in london yesterday night and told me to come down with some clips from the film.

The night went really well and he said he look at the clips and meet me for a drink later in the week to talk about it. He told me it is hard to get animations into exhibitions but he know some people that might be able to help. finger crossed that he likes what he sees and is able to help us get it shown somewhere.

At the exhibition there was a really interesting animation by artist Markus Vater and is well worth checking out. The exhibition will be open for 2 more months at:

I really don't like this one but i'm gonna carry on developing this technique because i think something good could come out of it. I had an orange glow on the letters as they fly past the screen but the haven't shown in this render. i'll have to sort that out for the next clip.

Me and Luisa went in to uni today to go though the film with our tutor. Before meeting up with Mike Smith we got to sit in the sunshine and tied up the lose ends of our film. First of all we went through the story and sorted out all the parts that were unclear to the audience. We made quite a few little changes that help the story flow better and it also saved use a lot of time in the film which would of been spent explaining the creation process and the concept of time and mortality. Now that the story flows well we wont have to add a narration. Mike was really happy with the story and progress of the film so we're really happy about that.

We then went through all the backgrounds we have to paint for each scene, so now I’m gonna go sit out in the sun with my water colors and beret.

Bamboo texture rework

I sent the images over to Luisa from the last post and she liked them but we have decided not to use toon lines in our project any more. This image above is the same texture as the images in the last post but without the toon lines. Me and Luisa are happy with this new image but i might make more definition between the leaves and branches but it all depends on how it looks in the scene.

A wop bamboo.

I've been having a play around with different textures for the bamboos. With these 3 images I was trying to create a fairly pail washy watercolor effect with sharp toon lines. I was really happy with the look of these renders.

i've been messing around with butterflies trying to get the timing right on the wings flapping and the speed that they fly. i'm trying to make 2 butterflies interact and dance off together. i still have bit to go before it all looks right.

I've made this small enviourment block out so i can test out textures for the land, sea and sky and also different why of lighting and exsperimenting with glow. I'm gonna have take the sky texturs back into photoshop to make the colours stronger as they are coming out to faint in the renders.

Tree Research

I been doing some web research on trees to get some ideas for different styles that i could use in our film.I found this image on a blog. I think it interesting how the trees look like they're fading out at the bottom with the glow. This is an effect that we could use in the creation stage of the film.

I like the colours in these two images and also the paint is applied makes it look flowing and alive.

I like in this painting how there is the mix of the soft realistic textured paint and the sharp black lines that define the edges and branch joints of the tree. They are almost like toon lines, which we are very interested in incorporating into the films look.

I've made a colour chart of colours that I will experiment with in textures for the scene where land is created. I picked pale colours so that towards the end of the film, when the earth is fully created, the land looks more alive and full of stronger colours.

The Lost Project

Here are some very early Maya screen shots of a 3D enviourment I made in 2nd year Animation at Ravensbourn. The final film was lost when my hard drive melted, so just imagen it looks fuckin amazing. If any one happens to have a copy of it please let me know.
